When does RaceTeam Epic start?

RaceTeam Epic starts week beginning 24 June 2019
We will be training for the Extra Mile Runners Epic Half Marathon which is on Saturday 31 August 2019. This Epic Half Marathon has been designed for this team and is only open to the RaceTeam Epic crew.

What is RaceTeam Epic?

RaceTeam Epic is a 10 week hill based/strength half marathon training programme. It is designed for someone who is wanting to build strength over winter ready for races in the latter part of the year. It is not a programme designed for someone who is wanting to do their first half marathon (RaceTeam Queenstown which starts 9 September is more suited for this). 

RaceTeam Epic has been designed to be challenging both physically and mentally, you will be training in winter, there are a lot of hill repeat sessions and it will test you - you will love it! 

Will I be fit enough?

Before you start RaceTeam Epic you want to have a really good running base. You want to be running around 60-90mins/ 10-12km comfortably. This is a challenging programme and not for someone wanting to do their first half marathon (RaceTeam Queenstown would be better suited for this - starting 9 September).

The Epic programme contains 1 x track session, 1 x hill repeat session and an endurance session.

When and where will the sessions be held?

RaceTeam Epic is a morning programme only. 

6.10am: Monday: Netball Courts (helicopter pad end), South Hagley Park
6.00am: Wednesday: Hackthorne Road (outside Zeroes Cafe, 70 Cashmere Road)
7.30am+: Saturday; Locations change weekly

+Note: During the programme there are 3 Saturday sessions that start at 7.00am - these are your longest run sessions so we start you a little earlier

What if I have to miss some sessions?

You will get the most out of this programme if you don't miss a session, consistency is key. The programme keeps progressing. We understand that you might not be able to attend every session so as long as you feel you will be able to get to over 85-90% of the sessions you'll be fine. Plus we'll keep an eye on your attendance and if you miss a few we'll get in contact to check everything is ok. If you are unsure about scheduling this into your life email us and we'll let you know if we think it can work. 

How much base training should I do?

If you have a good base running fitness and can run 10-12km+ keep that up until the start of RaceTeam Epic. If you can start some core work and glute/leg strength work - even better. It is also a good idea to get a routine happening with your running as we find that often the hardest bit for some people is to actually get out the door and exercise regularly.

How do I pay for RaceTeam?

There are 2 ways you can pay:

Option 1:

The easiest way is by credit card/debit card online via our Join Now page (link below)

1) 10 week programme: A one off payment
2) 10 x weekly payments 

Once you have chosen the payment method that works best for you click on the 'Buy Now' button that is under that option on the Join Now page. This will take you to our Paypal page, the world's leading online payment system store. You just then fill in your details to pay for RaceTeam.

You will receive an email from Paypal to confirm your payment. You will then be redirected to our welcome page where we ask you to fill in the fields that will ensure you will receive an email to confirm that your registration has completed. From here you have joined! You will receive emails from us letting you know everything you need to know about RaceTeam. 

Option 2:

By Direct Credit.
Email us and let us know you want to pay by direct credit and we will send you the account details and registration process. 

Is the race registration included in my registration fee?

There is no race entry fee for RaceTeam Epic as it is a half marathon we have designed for you - just for you. 

Accommodation and transport?

If your race is out of town, accommodation and transport are your own responsibility to arrange and we recommend you get onto it early. We suggest you look at or bookabach to arrange accommodation. We often find that car pools are arranged within the team and use our Facebook page to look for roomies or house share options.

Yes, the minimum age is 16 years old for any of our Extra Mile Runners programmes. 

CAN I BRING MY Child/baby or fur baby TO THE SESSIONS?

Sorry, no. In the interest of safety for all our runners (and we get a lot of runners at each session!), please leave your children and fur-babies at home. 

What do I need to bring to RaceTeam?

You need to bring a GPS watch, good running shoes, water, appropriate running gear, enthusiasm and energy ;o)

It's a good idea to check the weather forecast the day before the run to make sure you bring the appropriate clothing. We will be training in winter, bring gloves, hats, layers and warm clothes for before and after the sessions.

When we say "appropriate running gear" we mean good running shoes, ideally clothing with breathable fabric and warm clothes for before and after the run.  

What if it's raining? 

Rain, snow and hail does not stop us! We train in all kinds of weather. In the unlikely event we need to cancel a session due to weather we will email you and if you are unsure check our Facebook page as we will post on this page any cancellation notices too. 

refund Policy: What happens if I get injured or unforeseen circumstances means that I need to pull out? 

If you choose to withdraw: 

If you withdraw within 4 weeks (Weeks 1-4) of the programme start date we will refund or credit (valid for 12 months) your money, less the week's used (or part thereof) less a $25 admin fee. Please advise us via email of your cancellation. 

If you withdraw after 4 weeks (from Week 5) there is no refund.

If you get injured:

Hopefully not! But if you get injured during the programme we will refund or credit (valid for 12 months) you for the amount you paid less the weeks you attended (or part thereof) and a $25 admin fee.

If you transfer to another group, there is a $25 transfer fee.
